| A PACS,
when implemented correctly, provides an efficient means of transmitting
and archiving digital images acquired at both local and remote locations.
PACS are often integrated into multiple areas of a health care facility,
including the hospital information system (HIS).
PACS and Teleradiology, have the capability to provide improved
access to specialty care and to the interpretation of diagnostic
examinations by radiologists and referring physicians. Consequently
the PACS selection process and the ultimate function of the system
are critical to continuing success.
Biomedical Equipment Corp. provides
our customers with objective, accurate information concerning the
potential use and implementation of PACS technology.
The most important part of the PACS
planning process actually has very little to do with detailed vendor
technical evaluation, but somewhat an assessment of the entire hospital's
integrated imaging requirements and how PACS can help meet those
needs.
Those requirements vary based on the size of the facility, current
study volume, current hardware and networking components and future
plans for imaging facility growth among others.
The consulting process is designed
to assess the needs of the facility and its readiness to move forward
with the process. The facility’s environment, personnel,
financial status and motivation are all taken into account as important
factors in a successful implementation.
After the information gathering phase,
a formal proposal is provided which includes:
- Suggested PACS / RIS components
- Cost Benefit Analysis/ Justification
- Implementation stages and timetables
